28 Feb Conflict Resolution : International Perspective | 2023
A disagreement or dispute between two or more parties is resolved through the conflict resolution process in a peaceful and comprehensive manner. Finding a solution that is acceptable to all parties and solves the fundamental problems that caused the dispute is the aim of conflict resolution.
Last week, the Managing Partner of Messrs. Hazizah & Co., Dato’ Hazizah Kassim and its associate, Izzatillah Abdul Hakim bin Abdul Karim had the opportunity to attend a two-day workshop on Conflict Resolution: International Perspective organized by the Islamic Science University of Malaysia together with its collaborative partner, Juniata College PA, USA.
In this workshop the participants were presented with workshops and training on peace and conflict resolutions, conflict studies, model of peaceful interventions in conflicts and application to the Malaysian context.
In reviewing and giving a holistic overview regarding conflict resolution and specifically to this workshop, the presenter Professor Emeritus Dr. Amr Abdalla had introduced to the member of participants with one of the main frameworks in conflict analysis and resolution namely CR SIPPABIO which stands for: Conflict, Relationship, Sources-Interests-Positions, Parties, Attitudes-Behaviour, Intervention-Outcome.
In short, here are some critical steps in conflict resolution process namely;
Determining the fundamental problems that gave rise to the conflict
Paying attention to and recognizing the interests of all parties.
Examining into alternative answers that encompass the issues raised by all parties.
Negotiating and offering alternatives to arrive at a consensus-based solution.
Putting into action the solution that was decided upon and assessing its success.
“The CR SIPPABIO would be stipulated as a comprehensive framework and one of the best tools in analysing the large picture and the specific elements of conflicts. The framework is so much detailed and holistic that anyone could actually fit any kind of conflict and issues into this framework and try to find a resolution based on the framework given.”

In the same time, the presenter also talked and taught the participants the Models of Intervention in the Field of Peace and Conflict Studies where there are four main stages in this model namely; violent conflict – conflict management – conflict resolution – conflict transformation – conflict prevention.
In the workshop case, the participants were lucky to be introduced with international disputes and interpersonal conflicts during the two-day workshop as they had the opportunity to learn from Professor Amr on how to handle and tackle the crisis by using and analysing the frameworks taught on the first day of the workshop.
Overall the participants especially our firm, Messrs. Hazizah & Co. would like to thank the organizing members and committees of the said workshop and may with this new lesson, our country’s perspective in conflict resolution will once again found a new angle in finding resolution between two or more concerning parties in distress.
